Export gas pipeline explodes in Chuvash Republic, kills 3 people

NIZHNY NOVGOROD, Dec 20 (PRIME) -- An export gas pipeline exploded and caught fire in the Chuvash republic, killing three people, the regional Emergency Ministry and head of the Kalininsky District Olga Smirnova said on Tuesday.

"There are three dead, one survived. There were repair works there," Smirnova said.

According to the emergency ministry's statement, the explosion occurred due to a gas leakage. The pipeline Urengoi–Pomary–Uzhgorod takes gas to the Sudzha station near the border with Ukraine, which is the only Russia's remaining export station to Europe.

Former Deputy Emergency Minister Mikhail Faleyev told PRIME that repairs on the pipeline can take uo to three days.
